I have been reading about "wearable technology" for so long and decided to get a Fitbit Flex when I had the money (usually never!) I spotted a cute pink girly one and despite it looking a little cheap and plasticy looking, I still really wanted one to encourage me to scrape my ass of the sofa and get up and move! I am a sucker for all things weight loss so when I spotted this for £59.99 in the January sales I thought I would treat myself (well, what else are store cards for!) I got it home, set it up on my laptop and was really impressed with how cool it was. I thought that if this didn't encourage me to exercise, nothing would (unless Gerard Butler was standing in the distance with a cake telling me to run!)
I wore it to bed but when I woke up the next morning scratching my wrist and looking at a huge red rash underneath my fitbit, I knew something was wrong. After some internet research, I discovered the clasp on the Fitbit contained Nickle (which I'm allergic to) Oh joy, I thought as I got ready to return it to the shop. Ahh well, I think some more research is in order for another piece of wearable technology for me.....

Walden Farms syrup and sauces - my new addiction!
Sorry I haven't been on my blog for a while guys! Life kind of took over but I'm back! I have lost almost 3 stone since May so feel like I am doing great with my weight loss. I feel so much healthier, fitter and my clothes are looser too which is great.
I wanted to tell you about something I'm using every day now - Walden Farms syrup and sauces. They are calorie free, fat free and syn free (for those following Slimming World) Not every single flavour is amazing but my favourite has got to be the Strawberry Syrup. Oh my goodness, it is gorgeous! I pour it over yoghurt, fruit and over my rice pudding! A friend of mine freezes mullerlights until they resemble ice cream and then puts the Strawberry Syrup on top. For something like this to be syn free, it is worth trying for anyone wanting to lose weight!

Apple Cider Vinegar - Your weapon in the war against fat?
Following a healthy eating plan and a healthy diet and wanting just a little bit of help? Then you may want to try Apple Cider Vinegar. If you have never heard of it, it is a dietary supplement that has been proven to suppress the appetite and is great at detoxifying the body. It can be easily taken mixed into water a few times a day before meals.
If you don't like the taste, you can take it in capsule form so it doesn't put you off! Apple Cider Vinegar contains enzymes which can speed up your metabolism and is also great for reducing water retention so brilliant if you are feeling very bloated.
The thing to remember is that this is not a quick fix. It will give you weight loss at a steady and gradual pace if you take it regularly but will not make you skinny overnight. It is great too for curbing cravings if you get an attack of the munchies while trying to eat healthily. It also has these amazing superpowers -

There are loads of different types of Apple Cider Vinegar on the market and if you are somewhat of a domestic goddess, you can even make your own. I personally prefer to buy it as with a young child, finding time to go to the toilet by myself can be a luxury never mind brewing my own magic weight loss potion! From research I've done, I think that Braggs is a good bet and quite a well known brand you can't go wrong with. Now, I'd better go. It's time to go and take my Apple Cider Vinegar.
We'll, if it's good enough for Megan Fox..........

Shape magazine picture update - Brooke bikini pic WILL now be featured!
You may have read my most recent blog post about slimmer Brooke Birmingham who after an incredible weight loss, was asked by Shape magazine to submit an after picture to feature in their magazine as part of her weight loss success story. She sent in this picture....
Follow my blog with Bloglovin
and was deeply offended when Shape magazine rejected it asking her to "submit a picture with a shirt on". Brooke refused, explaining that she would only appear in the magazine if the picture she submitted was used as she didn't feel like she should cover up and feel ashamed of her body after losing so much weight.
After her picture and story went viral, Shape unsurprisingly had a change of heart. Editor Bahar Takhtehchian described the incident as a "misunderstanding".
Hmm, somehow I think that if there hadn't have been such an uproar by the outraged public, then the editor ( a woman herself!) would have just went back to rejecting similar pictures of women showing their amazing achievements and REAL bodies.
Brooke hasn't been airbrushed, she is a real woman and she is a great role model for all those women out there who are feeling less than "perfect" when comparing themselves to models in magazines. If I were Brooke, I would expect a BIG apology from Shape!
Brooke before and after pictures - an inspiration!

Does this picture offend you?
If you are Shape magazine, it does. This picture shows slimmer Brooke Birmingham who lost an amazing 172 pounds. After such a successful weight loss, the magazine asked her for her picture so they could print it along with her weight loss success story. Brooke sent in this bikini snap and was shocked when it wasn't accepted, instead the magazine asking for a picture of Brooke with a shirt on. Insulting much?!
Obviously too worried about their image and not willing to show a picture of a real woman's weight loss is the reason behind their ridiculous decision. I personally think that Brooke has done amazingly well and should be proud of how she looks and what she has been able to achieve. She is a beautiful, successful lady who has shown that everyone's body is different and can look different after such a great weight loss.
That's the thing I hate about a lot of magazines. They can be so narrow minded and have this stupid unrealistic image of how the "perfect woman" should look when really there is no such thing. Their view of a beautiful woman is one who is perfectly skinny with no bulges, marks or imperfections of any kind. In reality, this is a load of rubbish!
There are very few women in the world who fit a magazines "ideal" of the "perfect woman" especially since the average sized woman in the UK is a size 16. If all women featured in magazines were so perfect, then why does airbrushing exist!?
It's about time real sized women were featured in magazines, not those overly skinny emaciated "hasn't had a burger in 10 years" women that let's face it, just make the rest of us feel bad for not achieving that "perfect" look ourselves. I'm sure Brooke feels amazing and shouldn't let this rejection deter her from being a healthier slimmer woman than she was. Shape magazine, shame on you!

6 strange weight loss tricks
1 - Sniff yourself skinny!
Yes, you read it right. Studies have shown that sniffing your food before eating it (in particular bananas and apples) can help to curb your appetite. The sweet smell of the fruit is meant to help you feel less hungry. I wouldn't recommend doing this in public though incase people may think you're a weirdo. If you are a weirdo though, go for it!

2 - Wear tight jeans when going out for a meal
Nothing is going to make you feel more uncomfortable and conscious of your flabby belly than wearing clothes that are a little too tight. It may help you to eat less helping to keep your weight down. You will probably look forward to leaving the restaurant so you can get home quick and let your button out or pull your zip down!
3 - Only eat sweets that have wrappers on them
Studies have shown that eating sweets and having to take time to remove the wrapper first helps us to eat less overall because of the extra effort involved as opposed to munching on sweets with no
wrappers. This may work for some people but it doesn't mean you can munch your way through a bag of chocolate eclairs.
4 - Use your stairs while using your phone
Whenever you need to use your phone, walk up & down your stairs for each call you make. People can make more phone calls during one day than they think and you could quickly tone up your legs and bum while burning plenty of calories. The sound of your bum cheeks giving you a round of applause when you run up the stairs will become a thing of the past!
5 - Take your vitamins
It may sound silly that something so simple could help with your weight loss but something as easy as taking your vitamins every day can help shed those pounds. Some people sometimes eat more of certain foods as their body is deficient in certain nutrients and popping your pills may reduce the need to consume as much food. It's worth a try and if it doesn't work for you then at least you will be a bit healthier anyway!
6 - Switch to cold showers
Just the thought of this may make you shiver but it can actually be a very good tool in weight loss. Showering in cold water burns energy and therefore burns calories, it increases your metabolism and also helps to eliminate toxins and boost your immune system. Don't have long cold showers to begin with as it may shock your body. Gradually turn the water cooler during the shower or alternate between cold and hot showers finishing with a cold shower and you may not feel as traumatised! Now all you have to do is jump in the shower and grin and bear it. Or should that be brrrr it!

Online weight loss tips and advice
In a world where obesity is on the rise & money is not as easy to come by as it used to be, we can all fall into the trap of eating too much for too long & gaining too much weight without really thinking of the long term consequences.
I know this myself only too well because I have struggled a lot with my weight since I have been a teenager. Peer pressure, models in magazines & the stick thin world of celebrity dieters has us all wanting to look the same & not satisfied with ourselves or in our own bodies. I have lost weight recently & although I have not reached my goal yet, I am on the way there with more confidence to do it than I ever had before.
I have 10 important steps which I think are crucial to achieve a great weight loss ~
1) Plan plan & plan some more!
Write your upcoming weeks worth of meals out for everyday specifying what you are going to have for each day for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Shop for the ingredients & don't be swayed by the junk food on offer in the supermarket! If you plan your meals out in advance, you are more likely to stick to your diet & not be reaching for a chocolate bar when you're hungry & not sure what to eat!
2) Drink water
I can't stress how important this step is for weight loss. It is great at flushing out fat, eliminating toxins & improves concentration & can make your skin look great. Sometimes people confuse thirst for hunger so try & drink more water to fill you up. If you don't like plain water then add some sugar free orange squash or drink through coloured straws. Aim for at least 2 litres of water a day.
3) Be active
Some people love exercise & some plain hate it. I'm a bit of an inbetweener! Even if you don't think you have the time to exercise, just try & fit a bit more activity into your day. Take your dog out for a walk before work, walk the kids home from school or dance around the kitchen to the radio when cooking the dinner!
4) Have lots of healthy treats in the house
If you are prepared & have little bowls of cut up fruit & salad in the fridge & have things like slices of cold cooked chicken breast to snack on, you will be less likely to reach for the biscuit tin.
5) Eat fat burning foods
Fat burning foods are great to boost your metabolism & weight loss. Things like chillies, hot spicy things, green tea & caffeine have all been known to boost your metabolism.

7) Keep a food diary
If it passes your lips, it gets written down.
8) Find out why you overeat
Keeping a diary & writing down when you overeat & how you felt at the time may help to pinpoint what type of overeater you are. You may be an emotional eater or eat when you are bored.
9) Keep busy
I know when I am bored, I am more likely to eat so I like to find things to keep my hands busy. Cleaning the house, decluttering, knitting & playing video games are things I like to do to stop my fingers going into the fridge!
10) Get a diet buddy
If you have someone going through the same thing & who is there to support you through good days & bad, then you will be a lot more likely to succeed.
Believe in yourself, you can do it! Good luck!
